Potato Pit & Juice Bar (Dearborn, MI)

At Potato Pit, lunch is your canvas.  Sammiches?  Check.  Burgers, chicken fingers, fish & chips, wings?  Got ‘em.  Salads?  Yup…they even have a Subway-style pick-your-toppings bar.  This spot is the newest best-kept-secret in Dearborn along the newly crowded Michigan Ave. strip.

They also have some other options sent down from the heavens.  I’ve mentioned that I will drive out of my way for poutine - so a spot with a whole poutine menu - what time are we meeting?

If your brain isn’t convinced yet then allow me to remind you that poutine is crispy fries, cheese curds, and brown gravy.  Remember that the gravy is piping hot and makes those cheese curds perfectly melty and otherworldly- seriously, it’s like a pizza commercial when the cheese stretches from the table all the way to your mouth.

Create your own bowl of lunchtime magic:

  • Pick your taters: fries, tots, roasted taters

  • Get sauced: gravy, nacho cheese, or alfredo sauce

  • Get cheesy: fresh cheese curds, fried curds, or shredded cheese

  • Meat time: grilled or fried chicken or shrimp, steak, taco mean, gyro, or bacon

  • Top it off with a whole selection of veggies and condiments…and Hot Cheetos dust

Highlights

Poutine.  All of ‘em.  The standard model (The Canadian) is the best version around Metro Detroit.  Add crispy chicken or the shaved steak- it’s like a top shelf version of pot roast and taters.

The Halloumi Burger.  I’m not sure how I’ve gone this long without having halloumi cheese on a burger.  It’s firm and salty, tailor made for a burger.   The Double P sauce, a creamy bbq sauce created by the owner’s teenage son, makes this burger perfect bite after bite.

Lemonade.  House-made and a perfect combo with something hot, crunchy, and/or cheesy.  Spice it up with mint or ginger lemonade.

🛏️ Don’t Sleep On

Fish & chips.  Light crispy battered fish and the same fries that make Poutine worth writing about.

Fried veggies. I’ve never met a fried veggie I didn’t like…breading and hot oil makes even zucchini edible.  All of it has a thin crunch breading. Grab some cauliflower bites, spinach & artichoke bites, and of course fried pickles.

🌶️ For the Hot-Heads

They have Hot Cheetos Dust & Fondue on the menu. Top off a bowl with the spicy fairy dust or the fondue is a fiery amazing dipper for literally anything on the menu.

💎 Hidden Gem

Potato Pit’s juice bar has a full menu of healthy, non-fried options.  In addition to the fancy lemonade they have a wide range- from tropical, watermelon, and mango juices to cold pressed carrot and apple juices, not to mention power drinks and all the smoothies you could ever need.

If you want something healthy but also want to eat (not just drink juice) there is a variety of fruit and yogurt bowls to go along with the salad options on the full menu.

🫔 The Wrap

How do you still have room left?!?  You got steak AND chicken on that bowl!  Ok, here it is…grab some Funnel Fries.  When you top them with the fruit, Nutella, caramel sauce, or cookie butter, it’s like an elephant ear and crepe joined into a dessert Voltron.
